What does a 172/182 Clio weigh?

What does a 172/182 Clio weigh?

Nice simple query this one, what does a Clio actually weight, we’ve seen various book figures quoted around on the internet, so we thought we would check it out to see if a Ph1 really is lighter than a 182.

This isnt the worlds most scientific test, both cars had “about” half a tank of fuel, and the PH1 is modified a little in that its a later 197 engine and box which is slightly heavier but without aircon which pretty much cancels it out, but I concede there is going to be 10-20KG of variance as a result of fuel differneces and minor differences in changes from OEM spec, but I still think the results are quite interesting and the earlier cars definately are lighter.

Ph1 172:

182:

So there we have it, about 67kg lighter for the Ph1 based on our two. So its not just a myth, the Ph1 really is lighter.

Also, check out those corner weights, those were the figures as the two cars were just placed onto the scales, no changes made, and both were within 1% of a perfect 50/50 diagonal split, so fair play to renault for that, must be part of why they handle so well!

Note: Spare wheel not present on the Ph1 to make it a fairer test as the 182 doesnt have one!)
